Workers’ Party – PT- *Official Statement – Sérgio Moro Committed Perjury in the Brazilian Senate

The latest revelations published by the journalist Reinaldo Azevedo related to the so-called “Car Wash” investigation show that, in a crystal clear and unmistakable way, that the Minister of Justice, Sergio Moro, committed perjury during his testimony to the Federal Senate’s Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Committee (CCJ).

We draw attention to the fact that, due to a question of protocol introduced by PT Senatorial leader Humberto Costa Sérgio, Moro relinquished his right to remain silent and not incriminate himself.

Consequently, he will have to suffer the legal consequences of publicly lying to the Senate and to the Brazilian nation.

The new information, provided by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald, shows that in addition to perjury, Sergio Moro and his team of prosecutors have committed various crimes in their obsessive persecution of the greatest peoples’ leader in Brazilian history.
The newly leaked conversations, which are not fully denied by anyone, definitively reveal that Moro acted as director of the task force, guiding and advising the prosecutors, who went so far as to replace a prosecutor whose actions did not please the judge, after proposing to erase the incriminating conversations which they knew revealed the illicit act that they had committed.

The fact is that the revelations that have emerged show that, through their actions against Lula, Moro and his prosecutors violated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Brazilian Constitution and the Brazilian Penal Code. Instead of pursuing the truth and fighting corruption, they pursued their petty political goals and chose to accuse and convict on the basis of lies and unlawfulness, corrupting our democracy and betraying the confidence of the Brazilian people and the Brazilian justice system.

In conclusion, the Workers’ Party (PT) leaders in the Federal Senate and Congress join the party President to express their most complete solidarity with the journalists from the Intercept and the other media companies that are covering the case who, by fulfilling their professional duty in a completely legal manner, have been cowardly threatened by Sérgio Moro and the Bolsonaro government.

Brasilia, June 20th, 2019.

Humberto Costa – PT Senatorial leader
Paulo Pimenta – PT Congressional leader
Gleisi Hoffmann – Workers Party President
