- In a new report in the Vaza Jato series, messages obtained by The Intercept Brasil website and published in the Tuesday edition of the Folha de São Paulo reveal that Prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol and his colleagues from the Operation Lava Jato team hid information from Supreme Federal Court judge Rosa Weber at the moment in early 2016 in which they asked for her support – this being a decisive juncture in their plot to convict and imprison former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) without evidence. The report also showed that the Lava Jato team illegally tapped the phones of Lula’s defense attorneys. - In a statement, Lula’s defense team expressed the view that the report was “astonishing, but not surprising [considering] the contempt that former judge Sergio Moro and the members of the Lava Jato Curitiba Task Force held in relation to the expected conduct of legal professionals – notably in regard to the right to the inviolability of communications […] This legal violence is also related to the clear attempt of the Curitiba Lava Jato team to intimidation lawyers from our office,” reads an excerpt from the document.
