- A group of military police officers from several states in Brazil released a manifesto in which they defend freedom for ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The group emphasizes that Federal Law 12.191/2010, ratified by Lula, gave amnesty to military police officers and firemen in Rio Grande do Norte, Bahia, Roraima, Tocantins, Pernambuco, Mato Grosso, Ceará, Santa Catarina and the Federal District who had been punished for participating in labor disputes. - The ruling of the Superior Justice Court Ministers for sentence reduction for Lula in the case of the Guarujá, São Paulo, triplex apartment gives the ex-President’s defense team a chance to request a progression of the sentence from closed captivity to semi-open starting in September or October, the analysts and the Eurasia Group political risk consultancy firm were direct and objective: the communications battle against the austerity policies proposed by the Jair Bolsonaro government will gain their greatest and most powerful enemy if Lula gains the freedom to speak. - The Lula Livre Caravan with Fernando Haddad is entering its second national stage and will travel through the Brazilian southeast. In addition to promoting the defense of the former President by denouncing the arbitrary and political nature of his imprisonment, this new phase of the mobilization will also engage in dialogue with the Brazilian people on the current government’s proposal to dismantle the education system and debate the absurd proposal for pension reform. - After the traditional “good morning President Lula,” the Lula Livre activists participated in a conversation circle on this Tuesday, May 7th, coordinated by Paraná Federal University Professor and member of the Consulta Popular Organization, Ricardo Pazzelo. The theme of the debate was Gilberto Freyre an the formation of the Brazilian people. The participants had the opportunity to learn a little more about the Pernambucan writer, author of the classic book, The Slaves and the Masters, and how this book still has repercussions today. - The day was also marked by the departure of the bus caravan from Quedas do Iguaçu, a town that is located 429 kilometers from Curitiba. The activists from the Paraná countryside, who were present at the Lula Livre Vigil since its beginning, were congratulated by everyone after over a year of dedication to the struggle for freedom for Lula and the reestablishment of the rights guaranteed to the social movements.
