- Social movements and progressive political parties held a series of demonstrations today (May 27th) to commemorate the announcement of Lula’s pre-candidacy for the presidency. This morning a flag waving demonstration colored Curitiba’s traditional Largo da Ordem. Teachers, activists, social movement leaders and defenders of Lula spent the morning collectively demonstrating and, afterwords, headed over to the #LulaLivre Democratic Vigil. There, on Olga Benario square, hundreds of people participated in a political demonstration that denounced the mediatic, judicial and political coup of 2016 and reaffirmed that only with Lula will the people become happy again, with a government that generates income, jobs and preserves rights. MST, CUT, Levante Popular, Frente Brasil Popular, unions from Parana, PT and PCO were represented at the Vigil. Afterwords there was an ecumenical religious service.
- On the 50th day since Lula’s arbitrary and political imprisonment, many cities across Brazil held demonstrations commemorating Lula’s pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. The President of PT, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (Paraná) conducted a tally of all of the demonstrations that took place in hundreds of cities across the country. - Absolute leader in all presidential polls, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will register as candidate for the Presidency of the Republic on August 15th. During this week there will be other demonstrations to confirm the people’s wish to vote for Lula for President. The national event launching his pre-candidacy is scheduled for June 9, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais.
- In the state capitals and in hundreds of cities in every region in the country, streets, avenues and other public spaces were taken over by defenders of freedom for Lula and his right to run for the Presidency today. - In a demonstration in Brasilia today, Congressman and PT Congressional Leader Paulo Pimenta (Rio Grande do Sul), reiterated the party’s commitment to send Lula to the Planalto and guarantee that on August 15 his name will be registered. He predicted that the Lula’s campaign will be beautiful and enthusiastic enough to elect him in the first round. He said Lula will rescue the hopes of Brazilians for better days. “On January 1, 2019, Lula will be back and we will walk up the ramp of the Presidential Palace with him,” he said. Congresswoman Erika Kokay (PT-Distrito Federal) was also at the demonstration. “The people want Lula as President to restore their social and labor rights. Only Lula can interrupt this Coup government’s process of handing over everything to the foreigners and give Brazil back to the Brazilians,” Bulletin 98 – Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy
