Bulletin 96 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil – 5/25/2018 – 11 PM

1. Bus caravans continue to arrive at the #LulaLivre Vigil. Today the Family Agriculture caravan arrived and tomorrow morning, on Saturday, May 26th, more caravans are arriving from São Paulo. They are all preparing for the 27th, when Lula’s pre-candidacy for the presidency will be officially announced across Brazil.

2. This Sunday morning in Curitiba there will be a march to the Largo da Ordem market, which will start at 10 in front of PT headquarters. The political announcement of Lula’s pre-candidacy for the presidency will be made at 5 PM, in the #LulaLivre Vigil, in front of the Federal Police headquarters where the ex-President is being held as a political prisoner. The PT leadership is requesting that whoever takes photos or video of the acts taking place in other cities send it to: [email protected]

3. Colombian Senator-elect Glória Florez, who was also a Andean Parliament member from 2010-2014, gave an interview to the Brazilian media cooperative Jornalistas Livres today and spoke about the political scenario in Brazil, Lula’s political imprisonment and the decisions that will define the destiny of Latin America for coming years. “We admire Lula a lot. He is the Latin American leader who opened the possibility of building social justice on our continent,” she said. 4. Liverpool fans who are en route to Kiev, in the Ukraine, for the EuroCup final against Real Madrid this Saturday, are showing solidarity for Lula with banners that demand freedom for the ex-President. See the images here:https://twitter.com/PtnaCamara/status/1000101069937143810?s=08

5. Nalu Faria, Coordinator of the Sempre Viva feminist organization and member of the World Women’s March international committee will participate in the “good morning President Lula” yell this Saturday morning (May 26th) and, at 3 PM will facilitate a group discussion called, “why women want Lula to be President”. At 5 PM there will be a public class, “The 1964 Coup and the 2016 Coup” with Lafaiete Neves, Doctor of Economic Development and retired professor from Paraná Federal University (UFPR).

6. Note from the PT: Military repression will not solve the crisis in Brazil. The Party’s Executive Commission sees the use of the armed forces against the striking truck drivers as one more symptom of the authoritarian character of the current Government.
