Bulletin 89 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy
Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil – 5/22/2018 – 12:20 PM
- Ex-President Lula’s defense team filed a motion for recusation against Judge and Prosecutor Sergio Moro because of his participation in an event sponsored by the LIDE company, which is owned by pre-candidate for Governor of São Paulo for the PSDB party João Doria Jr., who is using photographic and video images from the event in his campaign, which is already underway. The lawyers also questioned the fact that the event, in New York, was supported by Petrobras, a company which has been accused of crimes in cases judged by Moro. They asked for clarification about remuneration and the costs of featuring Moro as a speaker at the event. Read more here: http://lula.com.br/defesa-de-lula-questiona-evento-de-moro-com-doria
- Last Thursday, May 17th, opposition senators presented three requests for explanation of the relationship between the Brazilian judiciary and the United States government. The documents request a public hearing with Justice Minister Torquato Jardim and Judge Sergio Moro, responsible for the Lava Jato investigation. The senators are asking the authorities to explain the cooperation between Brazil and the United States in criminal cases. The Central Brazilian Authority of the Justice Ministry is responsible for coordinating all solicitations for bilateral cooperation, but there is suspicion that these rules were violated by the Lava Jato team.
- The National President of PT, Senator Gleisi Hoffman (Paraná) released a video calling on the nation for the launching of Lula’s candidacy on May 27th. The PT calls on its activists, the social movements and the citizens who defend Lula’s candidacy to organize in their cities. Watch the video here:

- The Argentinian former football star, Diego Maradona, released a message supporting Lula in his social media accounts. “I want to give my support to Lula da Silva. While we all have our problems, it’s been proven that Lula hasn’t done anything wrong,” he said. “And for those who call themselves democratic and criticize me for thinking differently, I say that if they think we will return to the era of disappearances, like they have made Lula “disappear” today, they are very mistaken. I am open to debate, not to disqualification. I choose democracy. A big hug for my friend Lula”.
- The world knows that Lula is innocent and every day solidarity for him and in favor of his freedom increases. Political prisoner since April 7th, the President has received international support from various countries around the world that recognize his central role in the construction of a developed, fair and solidarity Brazil. A committee has just been created in France to denounce Lula’s political imprisonment and to request for his freedom. More information here: https://liberezlula.org
