Bulletin 80 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

  1. The State Congresswoman and Presidential candidate for the PC do B from Rio Grande do Sul, Manuela Dávila, visited the #LulaLivre Vigil on this Wednesday, May 16, and participated in the “Good Afternoon” yell to President Lula. During a speech on Olga Benário square, Manuela invited everyone to unite in the campaign from freedom for Lula. “Our pre-candidacy is also a tool for the fight for freedom for Lula. Free Lula is the rallying cry that should unite everyone,” she said. After speaking with the activists, Manuela held a press conference in the communications tent, where she also defended the participation of Lula and the PT in the electoral debates and denounced the political persecution by the press and the judiciary which is attempting to block the ex-President from disputing the elections this year.

 

  1. More than 30 parliamentarians from countries such as France, Ireland and Spain released a note requesting that democrats around the World react against the imprisonment of Lula. In the letter, they criticize the partiality of the Judiciary, the compliance of the media and interference of the military in the political and judicial crisis.   1. On this Wednesday, May 16th, another protest against Lula’s political imprisonment took place in front of the Federal Supreme Court building in Brasilia. Every day, protesters extend a banner counting the days that the ex-President has been unjustly imprisoned. The gesture is repeated every day in front of the Brazilian Supreme Court, as a way of exposing the political character of Lula’s imprisonment and the participation on the Judiciary in the coup process to the World.

 

  1. Legitimately elected President Dilma Rousseff said, during an interview on the program Hard Talk, on the BBC, exhibited on this Wednesday (May 16th) that the ex-President Lula is the name to stabilize democratic conditions and Brazilian institutions. “We think that President Lula had a great participation in the past, has one in the present and will have one in the future because Lula is a conciliator.
