- State Congresswoman Manuela Dávila (PC do B/Rio Grande do Sul) will visit the #LulaLivre Vigil today at 4 PM to speak with hundreds of activists who are camped out near the Federal Police Headquarters in Curitiba where Lula is being held as a political prisoner. Manuela has defended Lula’s right to run for President of the Republic and denounced the political nature of his imprisonment. Manuela was also in Curitiba on May 1st and participated in the May Day activities and the Free Lula protests in defense of democracy and Brazilians’ rights.
- Union members from the USA and Brazilian activists are protesting against Judge Sergio Moro this morning in front of the most expensive hotel in New York, the Pierre Hotel. The Brazilian judge is speaking to 200 businessmen in an event sponsored by the Lide Company, owned by PSDB party politician and São Paulo gubernatorial candidate João Doria, with whom Moro posed for a photo with last night. Yesterday, there were also protests against Moro for receiving the “Man of the Year” award from the Brazilian/American Chamber of Commerce. One sign that was raised by protesters called Moro, “Criminal of the Year”.
- Lula is classified as the anti-establishment candidate in the 2018 elections, according to political pundit Alberto Carlos Alemeida’s analysis of a poll by CNT/MDA. According to him, “if we interpret the electoral power of Lula, even after his imprisonment, we can affirm and repeat that Lula will be the anti-establishment candidate. - After the São Paulo PT organization launched a #LulaLivre Committee, the TOCA (PT-nucleus at São Paulo University/USP) and the Levante Popular da Juventude social movement are creating the University Committee for Freedom for Lula. The inauguration act will take place this Thursday and will be transmitted live on the TOCA Facebook Page.
- Along the same lines of the committees that have formed across Brazil and abroad, the Santa Catarina Caravan held a workshop in the Lula Livre Vigil on how to organize “resistance committees”. The idea is to strengthen the process of creating cells that act in defense of freedom for Lula and denounce the political nature of his imprisonment.
