- The Benedictine Monk Marcelo Barros released an emotional letter in which he describes in detail his Monday (May 14) meeting with ex-President Lula. - North American unions are uniting with the Defend Democracy movement in New York this Tuesday, May 15th, to protest against Judge Sergio Moro, who condemned ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva without proof. The protest will take places in front to the American Museum of Natural History. The protest will also denounce the use of Lawfare – the use of legal instruments to promote political persecution – and the political nature of Lula’s imprisonment.
- Father Èderson Queiroz, who appeared at the Vigil last month, is suffering retaliations from businessmen in Patrocinio, Minas Gerais, for supporting ex-President Lula. The attacks started after a video was released showing the Father defending the Marisa Leticia camp, Lula and the activists at the Vigil. On the attacks he has received, the Father affirms that, “retreating would go against my conscious and against the Gospel”.
- The #LulaLivre Vigil demands that the agreement made with the Paraná State Security Secretary, which determines the rules for the use of space beside the Federal Police headquarters, is also respected by other movements. The motive for this is an act by the fascist “Republic of Curitiba” movement, and by the activist Èder Borges, who is connected to Congressman Francischini, during which they went to the Vigil location last Sunday and broke the rules of the agreement by attacking our activists. They are a group which is against the social movements that seeks to create commotion and situations which will help criminalize the Vigil. The Vigil reiterates that it maintains constant dialogue with the local residents, respects the agreements and the times established for activities.
