  1. Former Foreign Affairs Minister Celso Amorim defended freedom for Lula as a means of reestablishing democracy in Brazil during a speech at the 13th National CUT Union Confederation Congress. According to him, the difference between the former President and the current right wing extremist is made clear when the amount of respect and influence that Lula had on world affairs is taken into consideration. “I like to say that Brazil is probably the only country in the world in which a prison is visited more frequently by world leaders than the Presidential Palace,” he said. The CUT Congress, which ends on this Thursday, October 10, is taking place in Praia Grande, São Paulo.   1. The theme of Lula Livre dominated the debates during the nation’s largest union confederation congress. All of the national and foreign speakers at the CUT Congress agreed that Lula was arbitrarily removed from the 2018 presidential race due to a political and electoral plot led by former judge Sérgio Moro, transforming him into a political prisoner on April 7th, 2018.

 

  1. Workers Party and social movement leaders recorded videos to call people to the “Justice for Lula” protest, which will occur on October 13th, in São Paulo. Former Education Minister Fernando Haddad, PT President, Congresswoman Gleisi Hoffmann (Paraná) and ex-Foreign Affairs Minister Celso Amorim were some of those who joined the campaign for everyone to come out to the event,which is organized by the National Lula Livre Committee, the Frente Brasil Popular and the Povo Sem Medo.   1. Former President Lula will receive another international award on this Thursday, October 10th. Richard Trumka, the President of the AFL-CIO, will travel to Curitiba to deliver the 2019 George Meany-Lane Kirkland Human Rights Award. The general secretary of the UGT, the largest Spanish labor union confederation, Pepe Alvarez, will also visit Lula on this Thursday.

 

  1. The “good morning, President Lula” shout on this Wednesday, October 9th, was led by the PT Paraná State Legislative bloc. Lawmakers Arilson Chiorato, Luciana Rafagnin, Tadeu Veneri and Professor Lemos joined with the activists to send good energy to the greatest people’s leader in Brazil during the traditional morning greetings.
