  1. One day after becoming honorary citizen of Paris, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva gave thanks for the initiative through a letter that was published on Friday, October 4th. “I received news of the Paris City Council vote that awarded me the title of Honorary Citizen. I thank you with all my heart, especially Mayor Anne Hidalgo, for this gesture of active solidarity which touches everyone who is defending democracy and justice in Brazil and is suffering the consequences of this fight. It is the Brazilian people and not just this citizen who deserve and need your fraternal protection,” Lula wrote. 1. Paris City Councilman Patrick Klugman, author of the proposal which awarded honorary citizenship to Lula from the French capital, considers the award to be a denouncement against an unfair trial. In an interview with DCM, he speaks of the origins of the measure and the appeal from Brazilians for the city to take action against the growing injustices in Brazil. “The condition of Mr. Lula da Silva, from the facts that we know, shows a trial that was politically instrumentalized to block him from running in a presidential election in which he was the favorite.” Read more here: https://pt.org.br/vereador-de-paris-diz-que-honraria-a-lula-e-denuncia-contra-injustica/

  1. The 4th Regional Federal Court (TRF-4) gave Lula back his right to receive religious visitors. The former President can now receive up to one representative of the religion of his choice per month. On this Friday, October 4th, Father Domenico Costella visited the former President in Curitiba, as a Catholic representative of the Xaverian Congregation. After the visit, the priest visited the Lula Livre Vigil to convey a message from Lula. “He thanks everyone who is here giving moral support and he is moved to know that there are people here fighting for his freedom.” Read more here: https://pt.org.br/lula-recebe-padre-domenico-costella-na-volta-das-visitas-religiosas/

  1. The band Francisco, El Hombre has captivated the public with great shows all over Brazil. In all of them there is always space for the band members to show that music and politics can mix together and share the stage. So much so that their show on Thursday night, October 3rd, at the Rock in Rio festival, is being viewed by some as one of the event’s highlights so far. In addition to playing great, the musicians began yelling “Lula Livre” and were immediately joined in by the crowd. They also took time to criticize the right wing extremist Bolsonaro government. 1. The “Good afternoon President Lula,” shout on Friday, October 4th, was joined in by a group of professors from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) who were visiting the Lula Livre Vigil for the first time. The group expressed their anger with the current dismantlement of the higher education system which is being promoted by the Bolsonaro government. The shout was also yelled in English by the Canadian photographer Heno, who stopped by the resistance center during a visit to Curitiba. Watch video here: https://bit.ly/3589Gzi
