- 250 Brazilian legal scholars signed a manifesto supporting Lula’s decision to refuse the offer for transfer to a semi-open incarceration regime. The document affirms that the trap of semi-open incarceration was another maneuver by the prosecution team, which has been weakened by the revelations from the Vaza Jato scandal of their illegal behavior. The document is aligned with the position of legal scholars all over the world who already recognize former President Lula’s political prisoner status and the lawfare process (the use of legal tactics to engage in political persecution) that was used against him in Brazil.
