- Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent a letter to the Labour Party Conference in the United Kingdom. The text was read during the meeting of the party’s youth group, who have nominated Lula as Honorary President. In the text, Lula warns about the advance of right wing extremism in the World. - In an interview in Opera Mundi, former President Lula spoke of Brazil’s protaganism on the World stage during his government and categorized Jair Bolsonaro’s government as one of total subservience. “Bolsonaro’s role in relations with the United States is humiliating,” said the former President. - The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) is playing a fundamental role in the operations of the Vigil and the maintenance of permanent resistance in defense of former President Lula, who did more for family farmers and agroecology than anyone else in Brazil. But the MST’s actions go far beyond this. On this Monday, September 23rd, the short film, “O Que é Agroecologia” (What is Agroecology) which won a prize from the US, will substitute Brazil’s speech at the UN Climate Conference, since the nation led by out-of-control Jair Bolsonaro was excluded for not presenting “ambitious goals” for fighting global warming. - The importance of the MST to the Vigil was the theme of a conversation circle that was held on this Monday, September 23rd. Activists from the movement presented a report on the daily tasks at the resistance center. Afterwards, they sang and recited poems that invoked hope for better days.
- During the afternoon, the film, “The Immortal Warrior” was shown at the Vigil. It tells the story of a man who has lived for 600 years in Brazil who experiences some of the important moments of the nation’s history, from indigenous conflicts to the arrival of the Europeans, passing through the military dictatorship and a war for water in the future. The animated film was written and directed by Luiz Bolognesi and released in 2013.
