Bulletin 575 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy
Curitiba – 9/17/2019 – 528 days of resistance – 7:00 pm
- Representatives of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH in Portuguese) met with Lula on Tuesday morning (September 17) to begin investigations into the serious violations of rights and constitutional guarantees committed during the process that led the former president to his political imprisonment in April 2018. Their conversation with Lula was the first stage of an investigation that should now also extend to former judge Sérgio Moro and Operation Lava Jato’s chief prosecutor, Deltan Dallagnol. Both are at the center of one of the most egregious cases of political persecution in the history of Brazil and will be invited by the CNDH to give their versions of the events. - It is misleading to think that the former president’s ability to communicate has been impeded due to his imprisonment. The large number of global leaders and heads of state who have visited him since April 7, 2018 proves just the opposite. Lula remains a dissenting voice in the current political scene, pluralistic and peaceful. Read more here: https://pt.org.br/do-carcere-politico-lula-da-aula-a-opositores-ao-pensar-o-pais-e-dialogar/
- The “Good morning, President Lula” yell this Tuesday was attended by activists from the “Consulta Popular” organization and the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB in Portuguese). After the morning greeting, the Paraná singer, João Bello, cheered those present with songs that have become part of the routine of the Vigil.
- The morning continued with a conversation circle, this time on the theme of the “Global Strike for the Climate.” The discussion was chaired by the activist from the “Stop, Pay Attention” movement, Daniela Borges. It was broadcasted live on Brasil de Fato Paraná. Watch more here: https://bit.ly/2mi6mj2
- This Monday (September 16), in a defeat for the São Paulo section of Operation Lava Jato, the Federal Court rejected the allegation of passive corruption filed last week against former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and his brother Jose Ferreira da Silva.
