  1. This Thursday, September 12, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be visited by Nobel Prize Laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel, and the Spanish journalist and sociologist Ignácio Ramonet. This will be the second time that the Argentinian will visit his Brazilian friend. Esquivel is leading the international campaign for a Nobel Peace Prize for Lula for his legacy fighting hunger and extreme poverty. Several Nobel Prize Laureates have spoken out in favor of freedom for the former President. After the visit, at 4PM, Esquivel and Ramonet will meet the press near the exit of the Curitiba Federal Police Headquarters. In its editorial on Tuesday, September 10th, the French newspaper L’Humanite praised the huge legacy left by former President Lula and expressed its worries with the arrival of “this nostalgic military dictatorship” which is running Brazil today. The text, which includes the phrase “Lula Livre” in its title, says that the “Lula’s social policies lifted 40 million people above the poverty line. When he stepped down after two terms after he won widely in both elections, he had a 90% favorable opinion rating from the population. The French newspaper Aliás invited former President Dilma Rousseff to come to France to serve as the guest of honor at the “Festival of Humanity”, an event promoted by the publication since 1930. The interview given by Lula to the news channel Pagina12/Canal9, the first for an Argentinian media company since the beginning of his political imprisonment, provoked strong emotions in the crew who participated in the recordings, which took place on Wednesday, September 11th. Nicolás Trotta, one of the interviewers, wrote the following on Twitter. “We were moved to see one of the most important leaders in Latin American history intact with the power and convictions he has always had.” A journalist from the French newspaper Le Monde also participated in the interview.
