- One of the most important events for the European left, the Avante 2019 Festival, promoted by the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), featured a demonstration for Lula Livre. Brazilian Congressman Zeca Dirceu (PT- Paraná) came on stage representing Brazil and, beside the General-Secretary of the PCP, Jerónimo de Sousa, spoke of the former Brazilian President’s political imprisonment. - Before the traditional “good morning President” shout, the Vigil activists made a point of remembering today’s (September 7) “Shout of the Excluded” and “Education Tsunami” protests. Thousands of workers and students held protests against the setbacks caused by Jair Bolsonaro. The greetings to former President Lula were led by activists who came from Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina. Watch here: https://bit.ly/2lFqaN1
- The “Good afternoon, President Lula” shout was joined in by activists from São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio de Janeiro and Bahia. Comrade Denise visited the Vigil for the first time and left a message for the former President. “I am very excited to be here in the Vigil. I would like to thank everyone who has welcomed me here. Your struggle is fundamental. I would like to say to our President Lula that Brazil loves you. We are with you.” Later on this Saturday afternoon, the resistance center was the site of a cultural tribute to Lula by the Paulo Freire Theater from Rio de Janeiro.
