- This Wednesday, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed the view that Brazil is being “destroyed by a government of traitors,” who are engaged in criminally handing over state-owned companies, public banks, oil and minerals to foreign interests. “Even the Amazon is under threat from this government that has neither the wit nor the will to defend it, a government that encourages deforestation and does nothing to protect biodiversity or the people that depend on the living forest.” Lula’s statement was made by means of a letter read out by Fernando Haddad at a political event held in the Chamber of Deputies in defense of National and Popular Sovereignty. - Also on Wednesday (September 4), in a message transmitted though his social networks, Lula commented on the deplorable statements made by by Jair Bolsonaro about the father of former Chilean President Michele Bachelet, who is today a UN High Commissioner. “Bolsonaro never tires of spewing out ignorance and shaming Brazil before the world. - Protesters from the Collective for Truth, Justice and Democracy held another protest this Wednesday (September 4) in front of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office building in Curitiba. The protesters demanded action in the light of The Intercept’s revelations in the #VazaJato series of reports revealing collusion between prosecutors and former judge Sérgio Moro (now a minister in the Bolsonaro government) that culminated in Lula’s political arrest.
