- Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s support team published a new message from him, on this Tuesday, August 3rd, aboutthe Michel Temer and Jair Bolsonaro governments’ neglect of the of the transposition of the São Francisco River. “Hunger in Brazil is a political project. So is thirst. There is no justification for the federal governments’ neglect of the São Francisco River transposition project, which they are even now trying to sell off. They do not want water running through the semi-arid region because they don’t want the people to have any autonomy to produce anything,” wrote the former President on his Twitter account. - It is clear for all of Brazil to see that the right wing extremist President Jair Bolsonaro, in addition to bowing to the interests of financial capital and foreign groups and removing rights from the Brazilian people, has the goal of trying to destroy the immense legacy left to the country by the Lula government (2003-2010). Programs such as Minha Casa Minha Vida, Bolsa Familia and innumerable others that were designed to guarantee social inclusion are now deeply threatened. This is why Lula is becoming more and more remembered for enabling millions of Brazilians the possibility to have a better life. - The activists from the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) have provided one of the greatest examples of mobilization in defense of Lula and Democracy. Present every day in the Lula Livre Vigil since April 7, 2018, the MST has also used culture to increase resistance. On this Tuesday, August 3rd, members of the movement organized a jam session with songs that are important to the lives of the millions of farmers in the country. - The Fourth Regional Court (TRF-4) will rule on a motion this Wednesday, filed by Lula’s defense team, which requests an end to the illegal blocking of the assets of Marisa Leticia, the wife of the former President who died in February, 2017. The blocking of the assets in her will has no precedent whatsoever under Brazilian law, and represents one more measure of exception which was made against the former President and his family.
