1. On this Wednesday, April 25, Judge Carolina Lebbos from the 12th Federal District Court of Paraná, prohibited ex-President Lula’s doctor from visiting him in his cell in the Federal Police headquarters where he is being detained as a political prisoner. In yet another arbitrary decision, she continued to maintain the ex-President in a condition of isolation in violation of the Brazilian Law of Penal Execution and the United Nations Mandela Rules. In her court order the Judge alleged that there are no medical exam results that prove that Lula needs “urgent” medical attention, despite the fact that he is 72, is used to having regular check ups and hasn’t had any examination since he was taken to the Federal Police headquarters 18 days ago. On Tuesday, April 24, the same judge barred an official Congressional delegation from making an inspection of the installations in the Federal Police headquarters where Lula is being held.
2. The Senate Human Rights Commission released a report based on its inspection made in the Federal Police headquarters last week. The report declares that there is “explicit violation of the Law of Penal Execution,” principally by the visitation restrictions to the ex-President. The Human Rights Commission sent the report to the Federal Police Department along with its demands based on the visits.
3. On this Thursday, April 25, Congressman Leonardo Monteiro (PT-Minas Gerais) will be welcomed in the #LulaLivre Vigil, where he will speak with activists. Afterward, there will be an activity called “Women Knit for Lula”. A group of women in the camp are knitting a blanket to warm up the ex-President. At the end of the afternoon there will be an Urban Intervention Workshop with Lúcia Helena Martins, Professor from the Faculdade de Artes do Paraná (FAP).
4. On Wednesday, April 25th, the #LulaLivre Vigil had all kinds of cultural activities, such as poetry readings and steel-string guitar jam sessions. Activists wrote many letters to the ex-President, which will be delivered to him shortly. In the afternoon a group of activists handed out pamphlets in downtown Curitiba.
5. Ex-President Lula sent letters to the ABC Metallurgical Union, the National Petroleum Workers Union (FUP) and the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST), thanking them for their support and mainly, for all of the companionship he’s felt from them during his entire life.
