  1. A group of Judges from across Brazil visited former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Thursday afternoon, March 21st. Edevaldo de Medeiros, a Federal Judge from Itapeva, São Paulo explained the reasons for their trip to Curitiba. “We did not come here to confront the judiciary, we came here to say that we are part of the judiciary and we want our institutions to function well,” he said. He also quoted the ex-President, “history is not understood the moment that it happens.” Read more here: https://pt.org.br/lula-a-historia-nao-e-compreendida-no-momento-em-que-ela-acontece/

  1. The Judges who visited Lula made a point of emphasizing the importance of the resistance, which has been underway for 349 days at the Lula Livre Vigil. André Luiz Machado, Federal Judge from the 1st District Court in Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco, said, “maybe President Lula is still alive with his head held high due to this experience of solidarity which we are building. And this will not end until he leaves prison.” Judge Raquel Rodrigues Braga, from the 2nd District Labor Court in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, said, “what you are doing here is priceless for the history of Brazil.”

  1. The judges stayed in the Vigil to join the activists in the customary good night shout to Lula. Roberto Baggio from the MST directorate and Doutor Rosinha, President of PT-Paraná, were also present. “Our cause is just and truthful, because it is a collective cause without any personal objectives,” Baggio said, “We want justice for the whole Brazilian people.” During his speech, Doutor Rosinha made an evaluation of the political happenings in the country, especially in regards to former judge Sergio Moro. “They are trying to confirm Lava Jato with force, but it is clear that the operation was always political,” he said. 1. International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was created by the United Nations and is celebrated every March 21st. To commemorate the date, a group of women from the CUT labor union confederation organized a demonstration to remember how the Lula and Dilma governments invested more in public policies for racial equality and social inclusion than any other governments. During the initiative, the name of city councilwoman Marielle Franco was honored with a symbolic street sign with her name on it. See photos here: https://bit.ly/2HMJe50
