Bulletin 389 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

Straight from Curitiba – 3/15/2019 – 343 days of resistance – 7 PM                                                                                                   

  1. The Lula Livre Committee will hold a national meeting on this Saturday, March 16 in São Paulo, with the goal of organizing a new phase of the campaign for freedom for the former President. During the whole day, there will be activities held in the Train Workers Union with activists, organizations and left political parties that are on the front lines of the struggle for democracy and for workers rights which are issues that are interrelated with freedom for Lula.   2. The National Lula Livre Committee meeting will start at 9AM and will be transmitted during the entire day on the social networks of the Workers Party, Brasil Popular Front, CUT, FPA, MST and political leaders. The big meeting will end with a demonstration which will include participation of Fernando Haddad, Guilherme Boulos, Manuela D’Àvila, Gleisi Hoffmann and others.
  3. On the International Day of the Struggle against Dams, in Defense of Rivers and of Life, which was celebrated on March 14, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent a letter congratulating the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), which was founded exactly 27 years ago. In the text, the ex-President honors the Movement for its struggle, “in defense of Brazilians and in defense of the workers.” Lula also said that the MAB’s work gives, “consciousness and dignity to the Brazilian people,” and that he wishes them strength to continue their work.   4. The “Good morning President Lula!” shout on this Friday, March 15th, was accompanied by an homage to the comrade and Vigil activist Mauro Chazana, who died on Thursday, March 14th. The demonstration was lead by local activists. Mauro, a São Paulo native, was also honored on the Vigil’s social media networks and was remembered as a comrade of struggle and resistance. A group of activists from Santa Catarina joined with the other Vigil activists and participated in the customary Lights for Lula, an emotional ceremony which has taken place every Friday evening since the beginning of the resistance in Curitiba.
