- A group of members of the US Congress delivered a letter to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo expressing their worries about Brazilian democracy. The letter, sent on Monday, March 4, and signed by 30 members of Congress, warns of the threats against the rights of women, LGBTQ+s, activists and other minorities. The lawmakers also spoke of Lula’s political imprisonment. “Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva—widely acknowledged to be the most popular political leader in Brazil—was barred from running in controversial circumstances that put at risk the right of the people of Brazil to freely choose their president,” it says. - During Estação Primeira de Mangueira’s commemorations for its 20th Rio de Janeiro Carnaval parade victory, the group’s practice hall echoed with the resistance cries from the streets and was filled with messages of support for Lula. A banner was hung with the phrase “Free Lula” on center stage. The group won the championship with a song about fighting and resistance that celebrated the “heroes forgotten by the history books” and honored city councilwoman Marielle Franco, who was killed by militia members in March of last year. - The activist Neudicléia de Oliveira, from the directorate of the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB) visited Lula on this Thursday, March 7th, and brought a message from the former President to the activists at the Lula Livre Vigil. “The only fight that we lose is the one that we don’t fight,” said Lula, who also gave the social movement representatives at the resistance center food that he received from his family. “I know that it isn’t much, but bring this food for everyone in the Vigil to share,” said Lula, in a gesture of comaraderie and solidarity.
