Curitiba, Parana, Brazil- 4/18/2018 – 2:30 PM
- Sitting on a chair under a blazing sun, Leonardo Boff, Brazilian liberation theology movement leader, spent the morning waiting in front of the Federal Police headquarters building for authorization to visit the ex-President. “I am an old friend of Lula’s and have come on a spiritual mission,” he said, “how can a divine law be denied by an earthly Judge?”
- Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, the Argentinian 1980 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, also tried, unsuccessfully, to visit the ex-President, despite having filed Brazilian and Parana State legal documents related to the visit, through his lawyers. “If I can’t see Lula I will have to wait. The judge is seeing that I will wait,” said Esquivel, who was flanked by João Paulo Rodrigues, from the MST, and Emidio de Souza, the National Financial Secretary of the PT.
- At the door of the Federal Police building, representatives of the National Movement of Recyclable Materials Scavengers and the National Movement of People Affected by Dams delivered two letters to the Argentinian in support of Lula’s nomination for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, listing the reasons why the ex-President is worthy of this honor.
- Congressman Valmir Prascidelli (PT-São Paulo) visited the #LulaLivre camp on this Thursday, April 19, and spoke at a press conference held after Boff and Esquivel left the Federal Police building. “President Lula needs all of us, needs this popular mobilization across Brazil so that the people can denounce the illegitimate imprisonment and so that he can return to become President of the Republic and transform Brazil into a country for all Brazilians,” he said.
- At 6 PM, Congressman Arlindo Chinagila (PT-São Paulo), the ex-President of Congress and ex-President of the Mercosur Parliament, will participate in the protest at the #LulaLivre camp in Curitiba.
