Bulletin 328 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

1. 14 years ago on January 13th, 2005, Lula ratified Law number 11.096, which instituted the University for All program (PROUNI). “You do not know how happy I am to see the son of a bricklayer get a PhD or the daughter of a kitchen maid become an MD,” he said, on several different occasions, showing his satisfaction with the program. By 2015, PROUNI enabled 2.55 million youth from low income households to study at private universities, revolutionizing access to higher education through a democracy deepening measure that was never before seen in the country. 2. The good morning shout to President Lula on this Sunday, January 13th, the 282nd day of resistance in Curitiba, was lead by Renato Simões of the national PT Party executive committee. Simões also participated in a conversation circle entitled “The people’s Congress and the tasks of the working class,” together with Joabe, from the MST Paraná state directorate.

3. PT Paraná President Dr. Rosinha spent the evening at the Lula Livre Vigil to participate in a debate on the situation in Venezuela and the US geopolitical interests in the region. Rosinha, who was a Federal Congressman, President of the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) and Secretary-General of Mercosur, also participated in in inter-religious service and the good night shout to former President Lula with the resistance activists, who remain strongly committed to the defense of democracy and justice and the end of the ex-President’s political imprisonment.
