- January 1, 2003 was a historic day on the Praça dos Três Poderes in Brasilia. For the first time, a worker put on the presidential sash. A crowd assembled in front of the Presidential Palace to watch the inauguration of the worker Lula as President of the Republic. - Over ten, fifteen or twenty hours by bus, car and plane. This is how the Brazilians arrived to celebrate the arrival of 2018 at the Lula Livre Vigil in front of the Federal Police Headquarters in Curitiba, PR, where Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been held as a political prisoner since April 7. - Activists from the Lula Livre Vigil held a giant hug on the street in front of the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba on this Tuesday, January 1st, as a symbolic act of giving Lula a loving hug. Red balloons were launched into the sky representing the screams of the wish for freedom for the former President. Hundreds of artificial roses were also thrown over the Federal Police Headquarters fence to symbolize the demands for peace and justice.
