- The Dominican friar Frei Betto visited former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on this Monday afternoon, which is the day in which he can receive a religious visit. Before the visit, in the Federal Police Headquarters, the friar visited the Lula Livre Vigil, which completed 255 days of democratic resistance today.
- The good afternoon shout to ex-President Lula this Monday was led by Tarcísio Jabuti, an activist from the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST). “Today marks 255 days of resistance, 255 good afternoons, showing that we will always be with Lula until he is freed,” he said. Activists from São Paulo, Santa Catarina and Paraná took place in the greetings to the former President.
- While participating the evening greetings to Lula, São José, Santa Catarina PT President Antônio Batisti said that the Vigil is “symbolic and in the heads of millions of people in Brazil and abroad.” Aluísio Shumacker, who came from São Paulo, spoke of how Lula’s imprisonment is one of the threats to Democracy in Brazil and said that defending his freedom is of the utmost importance for all of the Brazilian people.
- The legal scholar Carol Proner, in an interview with Carta Capital magazine, said that she believes that Pope Francis “considers Lula to be a political prisoner.” She was received by the Pope on December 11, together with singer/songwriter Chico Buarque, Argentine lawyer Roberto Carlés, and the Italian activist and writer Grazia Tuzi, to deliver a document about lawfare – the use of the law for political ends, such as the case of the Lava Jato investigations persecution of Lula.
