- Ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will be visited by two friends this Thursday, December 13th: Luiz Henrique da Silva, from the National Movement of Recyclable Materials Collectors (MNCR), and the Camões Prize winning writer Radaun Nassar. Luiz Henrique came to Curitiba with a caravan of recyclables collectors from across the country, to celebrate the traditional Christmas of the Collectors, a ceremony that Lula always participated in when he was President and also after he left power. Lula was the first President to receive a group of recyclable materials collectors in the Presidential Palace. - The singer/songwriter Chico Buarque visited Pope Francis on this Tuesday, December 11. He was with the lawyer Carol Proner, Argentine lawyer Roberto Carlés and the Italian activist and writer Grazia Tuzi. The group brought the pope a 1000 page report with accusations of the “selective judicialization of politics” in Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil. The document denounces lawfare (selective use of the law for political purposes) as a threat to democracy in the region and cites how it was used against Lula. Proner was already received by the Pope in August, when she brought him a book in which legal scholars criticize the ruling against Lula.
