Today, in Montevideo, Fernando Haddad and a group of PT lawmakers visited the Uruguayan ex-President, José “Pepe” Mujica and participated in a public demonstration in defense of democracy in Brazil and for freedom for ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The demonstration was made with directors and leaders from the Frente Ampla, a coalition of political parties which has governed Uruguay since 2005. The activity was suggested by Congresswoman Benedita da Silva (PT-Rio de Janeiro), who is a member of Mercosul Parliament. 1. Cristiano Zanin Martins, Lula’s lawyer, released a statement today, December 11th, accusing the members of the Lava Jato investigation of violating the partiality of the Brazilian judiciary by trying to condemn the ex-President again, without accepting evidence of his innocence, in a farce that was set up around a ranch in the São Paulo countryside. The Lava Jato investigation of Curitiba acts in a way that is incompatible with its duty to guide itself on the truth of the facts. Without presenting any evidence of Lula’s guilt, they only present what the investigative team calls the “best explanation”, wrote the lawyer.
