Bulletin 281 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

Straight from Curitiba – 11/27/2018 – 235th Day of Resistance – 7:40 PM

  1. The new unfounded accusations against ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – this time under the jurisdiction of the São Paulo Federal Public Prosecutors office – have even further revealed the political persecution made to remove him from public life and, more than is, drive him to his death in Curitiba. This complaint was made today by PT Congressional leader Paulo Pimenta (Rio Grande do Sul). To block yet another crime against Lula, Pimenta announced the resurgence of a large international campaign for freedom for Lula, starting with an event with personalities from around the world that will occur on December 10th and 11th. 1. Today, at the Lula Livre Vigil, there was a conversation circle about current challenges with the lawyers Clair Flora Martins and Cláudio Ribeiro. Both analyzed the current conjuncture from an economic, social and political perspective. Clair, an ex-Congresswoman from PT (Paraná) said that the new ultra-right wing government will try to deepen the removal of rights that were achieved with the 1988 Constitution and recommended building resistance through base level mobilizing. 1. The Lula Livre Vigil suffered a great loss on this Tuesday, with the death of the activist Maria Aparecida Maciel. She was one of the first people to arrive at the Vigil and dedicated her time to cooking in the kitchen in the Marielle Franco space, where the meals are made for the democratic resistance activists. She was known for her enthusiasm and for her worries about the militants so that nothing was ever lacking. PT Paraná released a public statement lamenting the death of Maria Aparecida, which can be read here: http://www.pt-pr.org.br/Noticia/30961/nota-de-pesar-companheira-maria-maciel

  1. The good afternoon shout to the ex-President, on today, the 235th day of resistance in the Lula Livre Vigil, was led by Dayany Sitskes, who came from Balneário Camboriú (SC). She joined together with her mom, who is from Goiás, to greet Lula, and emphasized the importance of the Bolsa Familia and other social programs implemented by Lula in benefit of the Brazilian people. Elizabeth Alves, from Ourinhos, São Paulo, also participated in the activity. Support for the Vigil arrives daily, in many ways. Today, Júlio César Malheiros donated books.

  1. The Vigil in Curitiba marked 235 days of resistance on this Tuesday, November 27th. It has been more than 7 months that, daily, people from all over Brazil and the world take turns to maintain solidarity and denounce ex-President Lula’s political imprisonment. The Vigil’s coordinators are asking for donations to continue the fight. Learn more here: http://www.pt.org.br/vigilia-lula-livre-conta-com-sua-ajuda-para-seguir-em-resistencia/
