Bulletin 268 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

Straight from Curitiba – 11/14/2018 – 222nd Day of Resistance – 9:10 PM

  1. After 222 days of political imprisonment over a triplex apartment that never belonged to him, Lula left the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba to defend himself against charges related to a vacation property that he visited repeatedly in Atibaia, in the São Paulo countryside. The case is related to payment for reforms made on the property. Lula denied all accusations and reiterated the fact that he is the victim of a gigantic farce in the Lava Jato cases. “I am the victim of the largest process of lies that the Country has ever known,” he said. 1. Lula’s testimony to Judge Gabriela Hardt, of the 13th Federal Court in Curitiba, represents another episode of political persecution, since he had to speak, once again, about a property which he has never owned – this time in Aitibaia. But, even though he was not seen in public, the greatest people’s leader the country has ever had continues to mobilize crowds, as hundreds of people gathered around the Federal Court building in Curitiba. 1. Members of the Congressional and Senatorial PT blocs visited the Lula Livre Vigil on this Wednesday morning, November 14, to show their solidarity with the ex-President before attending his testimony in the Federal Court. “This case shows how penal-mediatic populism works: the accusations are farcical. The judge is unable to link the accusations with the facts but is trying to incriminate him in any way possible,” said Congressman Wadih Damous (PT-Rio de Janeiro). 1. The PT candidate in the 2018 elections, Fernando Haddad, visited Lula today and said that the ex-President is convinced that if he had the right to a fair trial with impartial judges, he would be immediately released, and would head back to the streets together with the workers in defense of their rights. “President Lula is very serene and is sure that if his arguments were listened to, Justice would be made and he would be absolved. He is very prepared and very thankful for the solidarity. He will never stop fighting,” said Haddad. 1. PT Agency photographer Joka Madruga made a photo essay of people from all over the country who were in the Vigil today to give in support to the ex-President. The photo essay is called I am Lula. See them here: http://www.pt.org.br/militantes-homenageiam-o-ex-presidente-eu-sou-lula/
