Straight from Curitiba – 11/13/2018 – 221st Day of Resistance – 7:35 PM
- Political party and social movements leaders will accompany ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s testimony on this Wednesday, November 14th, in Curitiba, in front of substitute Lava Jato judge Gabriela Hardt, about charges related to a ranch in Atibaia, São Paulo. It will be the first time that Lula leaves the Federal Police headquarters since he became a political prisoner on April 7th of this year. The judge will oversee the Lava Jato case temporarily, under the jurisdiction of the 13th Federal Court, until a new judge is designated. The official judge overseeing the case, Sérgio Moro, who is slated to become right wing extremist Jair Bolsonaro’s new Minister of Justice, took a vacation and did not make a request to be pulled off the case so that he can continue influencing litigation and maintaining his persecution against Lula.
- The demonstration to accompany Lula’s testimony is being coordinated by the Lula Livre National Committee. The crowd will assemble starting at 12 Noon at the Lula Livre Vigil and also in front of the Federal Court where he will begin his testimony at 2 PM.
- PT President, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (Paraná), PT Congressional leader Paulo Pimenta (Rio Grande do Sul) and leaders of several different social movements will be in Curitiba tomorrow. They are coming to show their solidarity with Lula and request a fair trial for the former President. Read more here: http://www.pt.org.br/liderancas-e-movimentos-vao-acompanhar-depoimento-de-lula/
5. Since Sérgio Moro was designated as the magistrate to rule on all the cases against the ex-President, the lawyers have complained that Bolsonaro’s new Justice Minister could not be trusted. In accepted a cabinet position in the new government, Moro confirmed that he has been practicing politics since the beginning of the Lava Jato case. He condemned Lula in the case of the triplex apartment in Guarujá without any proof, based on a premise which does not exist in Brazilian law, that of “indeterminate acts”. The real motive behind the judge’s decision was to remove the ex-President from the 2018 elections. Read more here: http://www.pt.org.br/juiz-ministro-de-bolsonaro-moro-segue-com-perseguicao-a-lula/
- The good afternoon shout to former President Lula this Tuesday was lead by Rosane Silva, a member of the Lula Livre Vigil coordinating team. “Today, once again, we have our comrades from São Paulo’s ABC region, who go back and forth to renew their ranks and are always with us,” she said. Starting tomorrow, the Vigil will receive various caravans of activists from across the country to strengthen the resistance which, for 221 days, has defended freedom for Lula and denounced his unjust condemnation to the world.
- This afternoon the activists in the Vigil watched the movie Animal Farm, based on the book by George Orwell. Afterwards, there was a conversation circle about the film, led by Marcia da Rosa from the Movimento Nacional de Luta por Moradia (National Housing Struggle Movement/MNLM) and Daniel Barbosa, a PT activist from São Paulo’s ABC region.
