- This week, the English magazine The Economist criticized the forceful way that Sérgio Moro was nominated to a cabinet ministry in the right wing extremist government of Jair Bolsonaro. “Some of his legal decisions now appear questionable,” says an article in this week’s edition about judges’ activism in South America. “It is said that Moro had already been speaking with Bolsonaro’s staff. This damages trust,” it says. The article confirms what everyone already knew: Operation Car Wash was always Sergio Moro’s project to take power, and that he condemned ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva without proof to achieve political goals. - Today’s good afternoon shout to ex-President Lula, on Friday, November 9, was led by members of the National Education Workers Union (CNTE) which is in Curitiba for a national conference. The activists who came to the Vigil are from Macapá. The president of the Education Workers Union of Amapá, Katia Cilene, spoke to the activists before the greeting to the former President. She said that the injustice committed against Lula – who was condemned without proof – shocked the world, but that she has hope that Sergio Moro’s arbitrary prison sentence will be overthrown in higher courts.
- The President of the Amapá state CTB labor union federation of Brazil, Giovani Granjeiro, also spoke to the activists before the good afternoon shout to Lula. He said that, in their state in the far North of Brazil, all the activities in the Lula Livre Vigil are followed on the internet by activists who are fighting for democracy and freedom for Lula.
- Professor Joelma Bandeira, director of the CTB labor union federation of Brazil, also from Amapá, manifested in solidarity with the activists in the Vigil. “We are there in Amapá resisting and debating the current situation”, she said. She spoke of the importance of strengthening the mobilization through the country and abroad, to guarantee freedom for Lula and correct the injustices committed against him by “judge” Sérgio Moro, Bolsonaro’s future Justice Minister.
