Bulletin 253 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

  1. The national president of the Workers’ Party, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (Paraná), announced today that the fight for the freedom of former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will carry on as one of the party’s main goals. Following President-elect Jair Bolsonaro’s barbaric and grotesque imprecations against Lula, she said she feared for the life of the former president, who was convicted without crime or evidence by Judge Sérgio Moro. Gleisi pointed out the fact that Lula is entitled to a fair trial and said that the party will make an application for greater protection for his life and person. Together with the decision to strengthen the fight for freedom for former President Lula both in Brazil and abroad, the coordinators of the Free Lula Vigil have decided to reinforce the campaign to collect financial contributions to the democratic resistance in Curitiba. The “good afternoon” yell to former President Lula on the 207th day of democratic struggle in Curitiba included the addition of new slogans as well as those used in these more than six months fighting for the former president’s release. As of today, shortly after the greetings to the ex-president, activists at the Free Lula Vigil will also shout “we are resisting!”

 

  1. A conversation circle took place mid-afternoon today on the theme of Culture in the Current Circumstances. The event was coordinated by Luzia Ferreira, a professor at the Federal University of Paraná.
