- On this Saturday, October 27, the Lula Livre Vigil will have an intense cultural and political schedule to celebrate former President Luiz Inácio da Silva’s 73rd birthday. At 11:30 AM a cake will be delivered to the door of the Federal Police with a request for Lula to share it with his captors. Afterwords there will be a series of musical and theatrical presentations, with the participation of Lula’s family members, politicians and social movement leaders as well as staff from the Lula Institute. Over a thousand people have confirmed their presence on the Vigil’s Facebook page. See more here: http://www.pt.org.br/aniversario-de-lula-e-comemorado-neste-sabado-27-em-curitiba/
- The Lula Livre Vigil marks its 204th day tomorrow, on Saturday, October 27. During this time, the landscape has been marked by an Araucária tree. This tree is the state symbol of Paraná and has gained a new meaning as a symbol of democratic resistance in Curitiba. The araucária tree anchors and protects the Vigil in Curitiba. From the top of its 30 meters in height, it imposes its visual force on the comrades in the Vigil, which, in the day to day struggle of the activists, enchants everyone with its power. - The good afternoon shout to ex-President Lula on this 203rd day of resistance in Curitiba was lead by Tarcísio Jabuti, a member of the Landless Workers Movement (MST). He expressed optimism with the work of the activists across Brazil to get enough votes to guarantee victory for the Fernando Haddad/Manuela D’Àvila presidential ticket, in the election runoff on Sunday, October 28th. “There are a lot of people on the streets today, campaigning and turning votes around. We’ve already turned capitals around. The victory will be ours,” he said.
