- In a message that was published in his social media accounts, former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva listed a series of reasons why sectors of the Brazilian elite don’t want PT to return to power over the federal government. “They are afraid that we will return and prove that this country can be happy, that its self-esteem can be restored, that employment levels will come back, and that we can rebuild the shipping industry,” he said. Lula also said that, after the 2016 coup, a series of anti-national actions were implemented, such as the delivery at below market rates of the off shore petroleum deposits to foreign companies. - The good afternoon shout to ex-President Lula on this 194th day of democratic resistance in Curitiba was led by Rosane Silva, one of the coordinators of the Lula Livre Vigil. She spoke about the final round of the 2018 presidential elections, which will take place on October 28th, noting the huge differences between the two competing projects for government. “On one side, there is hate, on the other, social inclusion, income distribution, low income housing, quality public health and education and the project of Fernando Haddad and Manuela D´Ávila,” she said.
- As evening set in Ivo Pereira de Queiroz launched his book “Africanidades e Democracia” (Africaness and Democracy) at the Lula Livre Vigil. He is an activist from the Unified Black Movement (MNU) and a professor at Paraná Technical University (UTFPR), where he founded the Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous Studies Center (NEABI). Before launching the book, Queiroz gave an interview in the Democracy House for the Lula Livre radio program, which is connected to Brasil de Fato newspaper.
