Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil – 9/22/2018 – 7:15 PM

1. On the 169th day of democratic resistance against the arbitrary imprisonment of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the activists of the Lula Livre Vigil celebrated the ‘good morning’ yell to the former President with music, during a sunny morning. Carmem Foro, the National Vice President of the CUT labor union federation, who came to Curitiba on this Saturday to support the activists in the Vigil and strengthen the campaign for freedom for the ex-President, participated in the morning yell.

2. This Saturday afternoon, the activists remembered former President Lula’s message in which he said how thankful he is for the affection he receives from the Vigil every day, especially on weekends. Today the Vigil was also visited by Ana Carolina, of the Black Movement, who announced several acts planned in Curitiba in defense of democracy.

3. A big sail with Lula’s face stamped on it in red, is hanging from one of the columns of the Rio de Janeiro Modern Art Museum (MAM). It is part of the “It’s all true” intervention by Cesar Oiticica Filho and Carlos Cirenza, which started this Saturday, September 22. Another column holds a sail with Marielle Franco’s face, also in red. Franco was a Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman who was assassinated over six months ago in a political crime that has still not been solved by the police. Images of other important historical characters on sails complete the pantheon. The starting point for the work of art is the documentary, “It’s all True” by Orson Wells. Read more about it here:

4. Last year, Lula began a radical political adventure: to drive across the country bringing a message of democracy and struggle against injustice. The over 8000 kilometers traveled by him and other activists inspired the book, “Caravanas da Esperança” (Caravans of Hope). The release party took place on Friday night, September 21, in São Paulo. The book was organized by the journalist Cleusa Slaveiro, who invited admirers, friends and supporters of the President to put their feelings about the journey into words. The preface is by Lula, who explains why, at 70, he felt that it was the right time to repeat the journeys that marked his activism during the 1980s and 1990s.
