- Former President Lula rejected the idea of receiving a presidential pardon on this Tuesday, September 18. This information was communicated by Congressman Wadih Damous (PT-Rio de Janeiro), who visited Lula this afternoon in Curitiba. According to Damous, the ex-President views the granting of a possible pardon as a false confirmation of his guilt and he will fight so that the truth prevails. “He wants his innocence recognized and does not want to hear anything about a pardon,” he said. - Wadih Damous says that Lula is in good shape and is optimistic about a victory of Haddad and Manuela in the elections. The ex-President spoke of the PT candidate’s surge in the polls and asked people for their total dedication on the road to October 7th. “In this election, he (Haddad) does not just represent Lula, but the PT program for government, and therefore the needs and interests of the Brazilian people, who want to get out from this hole.”
- Gilberto Carvalho, ex-Minister of Lula`s General Secretariat, was at the Lula Livre Vigil today, on the 165th day of resistance and solidarity for ex-President Lula. Dozens of activists from the MST came in from Northern Parana to reinforce the Vigil. The new arrivals were registered by the coordinators and were welcomed to the Vigil during the “good morning,” shout to the ex-President.
- The book, “A verdade vencerá: o povo sabe por que me condenam” (The truth will win: why I was condemned), has recently been launched in the United States, by OR Books, and is also available for sale online. The North American edition contains a reference to the words of ex-President Barack Obama about Lula, “This is the man.. The most popular politician on Earth” (2009). The book will also be launched in India in September, by LeftWord, and by the end of the year in France and Germany. - This afternoon the PT released a statement of solidarity for ex-President and current Argentinian Senator Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, to the recent court case which is victimizing her. “This case follows the same model that was used in Brazil against ex-President Lula, the PT and the left, using the instrument of “lawfare”, with an absence of evidence, and accusations made by supposedly repentant businessmen,” it says. - In a statement released on Tuesday, September 18, the PT strongly condemns the recent declarations by the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OEA), Luis Almagro, who said he doesn’t rule out a military action to remove President Nicolas Maduro from power. “We should respect the sovereign will of the Venezuela people, who elected their government democratically in serious and transparent elections,” says the text.
