1. The square in front of the Lapa Aqueduct in Rio de Janeiro is completely packed with people who have come from all over the country tonight, July 28th, to take part in the Free Lula Festival. Different accents are mixing together with  people of all ages.The mood is one of joy and determination to demand freedom for ex-President Lula. 2. Carlos Negreiros, Gang 90, Ana Canãs, Abla Maria, Gabriel Moura, Lisa Milhomen and Dorina are some of the singers who have already performed onstage and called for freedom for Lula in the Festival. Actress Lucélia Santos read a manifesto on stage signed by artists from across the country, which demands freedom for Lula and denounces the legal mistake which resulted in Lula’s imprisonment without proof. “We want freedom now! 3. One of the most eagerly awaited artists at the Free Lula Festival this Saturday, Chico César, spoke with the press shortly before taking the stage. He said that he is happy to take part in this historic moment. “It is for Lula, but mainly its for Brazil, so that democracy can be put into practice,” he said. More than 40 artists are still going to play tonight at the Festival, including Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil and Bete Carvalho. 4. Completing exactly 113 days, the #Lula Livre Vigil in Curitiba is already a milestone in the history of the country, as a sign of resistance in favor of democracy and against the arbitrary imprisonment of the ex-President. In addition to serving as stage for Brazilians from all corners of the nation for social movements and international leaders to voice their support, the movement reaffirmed its social character this Saturday, July 28th, with the creation of the Solidarity Brigade, with the idea of holding weekly activities to benefit the population.

5. Activists from social movements from several different Brazilian states are uniting in Brasilia to hold a hunger strike for freedom for ex-President Lula and in protest against famine’s return to the country during the current government. Via Campesina will hold a press conference on Monday, July 30th, during which it will explain all of the reasons for its protest, and what the process and schedule will be.
