Bulletin 156 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

  1. Lula does not just lead in voter intention, but also in direct support for his pre-campagin. The online appeal to individual donors has raised more money by far than any other candidate, reaching R$400,000 in less that two months since June 6th, when it was inaugurated.   1. On this Wednesday, July 25th, French Communist Party Senator Laurence Cohen will visit the Lula Livre Vigil. During the morning he will participate in a round table discussion in the Vigil with the theme, “Analysis of the Conjuncture and the Consequences of the Coup on the Lives of Women – From Advances and Victories to the Extermination of Rights and Citizenship.”

 

  1. On this Tuesday, July 24th O. Anantra, from India, participated in the “good afternoon” shout to ex-President Lula. “I came here with love and solidarity for all of you. I love Lula. We love Lula. The world loves Lula,” he said to the activists in the camp. Afterwords, the shout to the ex-President was led by the sisters Martha and Márcia Marques, who came from Brasilia to be near Lula.

 

  1. On Monday, July 23rd, Lula sent a letter to the president of the Metallurgical Workers Union in the ABC region of São Paulo, Wagner Santana, thanking him for a shirt that he gave him as a present. He also took advantage of the moment to write that he will be candidate for President and that he will return to bring hope back to the people and make Brazil happy again. Lula said that he will create a day of ‘Return’, remembering the holiday created for ‘Stay’, when Dom Pedro I decided to stay in Brazil, disobeying the orders of the Portuguese Court who were trying to transform Brazil back into a colony. Hundreds of citizens, fed up with Lula’s political imprisonment, have put billboards up in cities across Brazil with the message “Lula Livre”, in defense of the immediate release of ex-President Lula. There are now 13 billboards up in Curitiba alone, plus 4 in Londrina and 7 in Porto Alegre. Three billboards were put up in Salvador over the weekend and on this Monday, July 23rd, billboards were put up in Rio de Janeiro.   1. For every 10 voters in Maranhão, at least 6 have a name ready to take Brazil out of the crisis: Lula is the chosen candidate for 66% of the state’s 4.5 million voters.
