- “There is no chance of retreat. I am a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2018.” This is the message from Lula to the activists and the Brazilian people given by Congressman Wadih Lula Damous (PT-Rio de Janeiro), who visited the ex-President on this Monday, July 23rd, in Curitiba. During an interview in the #LulaLivre Vigil, Wadih said that the ex-president is full of energy for the struggle for Brazil. Lula’s candidacy for the presidency will be registered on August 15th. - Lula is the favored candidate everywhere in Brazil, and Minas Gerais is no different. A poll taken by Instituto Doxa, published in O Tempo newspaper on Sunday, July 22nd, shows Lula with 41% of voter preference for the presidency, among voters in that state. The sum total of all the other candidates together does not reach 30%. - The political imprisonment of ex-President Lula and the collective fight against the barring of his candidacy has triggered the campaign, “Women with Lula,” launched this Saturday, July 23rd, by the PT’s National Woman’s Secretariat. The campaign supports the Free Lula Committee’s petition drive to pressure the Federal Supreme Court and the Superior Justice Court to annul the unjust and arbitrary charges that were made against Lula without proof. - Today, on July 23rd, ex-president Lula received a spiritual visit from the Lutheran Pastor Inácio Lemke. After the meeting, the Pastor met with the activists in the #LulaLivre Vigil and said that he left the visit full of hope. “Lula is certain that we can transform Brazil back into what it was a short time ago. - On this Monday the #LulaLivre Vigil had its first Cinema session. Inside the tent where many of the activities in the Vigil are held, the activists watched Silvio Tendler’s documentary, “A Comida está na Mesa.” “This is an important film for our debate about healthy food,” said Wellington Lenon, from the MST’s Communications Sector.
