- Ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has been held as a political prisoner for 107 days in Curitiba, continues leading in all of the polls for this October’s presidential elections. According to the Ibope polling agency, Lula has 56% of voters’ intention for the Presidency. In the spontaneous poll, in which candidates names are not mentioned, Lula received support of 45% of those surveyed, with the ultra-right candidate in second place at 9%. - The actor and comedian Gustavo Mendes participated in today’s “Good morning!” shout to Lula. Afterwords he told an emotional story to the activists in the #LulaLivre Vigil about how he and his family’s lives changed positively starting in 2003, when Lula began his first term as President. The actor expressed his solidarity with Lula and said that Brazil is living in a state of exception, citing examples such as the arbitrary imprisonment of the ex-President and the suppression of the people’s historic rights by an illegitimate government. - This weekend, people who passed through the municipal markets in Belo Horizonte and Curitiba were surprised by spontaneous demonstrations for freedom for Lula. On Saturday in the Belo Horizonte Public Market, as a trumpet blasted, hundreds of people sang, “Olê, olê, olê, olá, Lula, Lula!” This Sunday morning it was time for the people of Curitiba to repeat the homage to Lula, also with the help of a trumpeter. The spontaneous acts in defense of freedom for Lula have been multiplying in the country and abroad. - This Sunday, on the Democracy Network program, Antenor Gomes de Lima and Dimas Gusso told the story of the Faxinalinse people , who live in rural communities in Paraná where they preserve the forests around the areas where they farm. They spoke about their economic activities, their communal life and defended preservation of their way of life and the rights of traditional rural peoples as a form of preserving jobs and the environment.
- During the closing ceremonies of the 66th National Student Union Congress this Sunday, July 22, PT National President, Senator Gleisi Hoffman (Paraná) emphasized the importance of unity in defense of freedom for ex-President Lula, who has been a political prisoner since April 7th. Senator Vanessa Grazziotin (PC do B – Amazonas) and PSOL National President, Juliano Madeiros, also participated in the UNE Congress’ closing ceremonies, which had the of “For Democratic Elections – Free Lula”.
