Bulletin 146 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy
Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil – 7/14/2018 – 9 PM
1. Brazil needs to be happy again and it will be happy again. The Lula Livre Vigil has been set up in Curitiba defending justice and democracy for Brazil for nearly 100 days, demanding freedom for the greatest president that Brazil ever had. 2. In addition to the protests that took place across Brazil on the National Day for the Struggle to Free Lula on Friday, July 13th, groups also mobilized in Portugal and England, demanding freedom for the ex-President and condemning the partisan actions of sectors of the judiciary, especially judge Sergio Moro. In Portugal, a protest took place on Lisbon’s Camões square, with Portuguese congresspeople like Antonio Filipe and Joana Mortágua defending freedom for Lula. In London, the Lula Livre UK Committee participated in the march against the visit of US President Donald Trump. 3. A group of approximately 70 artists who defend freedom for Lula, including writers, cartoonists and poets, headed by Ademir Assunção and Marcelino Freire, met to create a book called, “LulaLivre”. The work, which is scheduled for release in the end of July, will include contributions from people like Augusto de Campos, Aldir Blanc, Frei Betto, Chico Cesar, Laerte, Caco Galhardo, Carlos Rennó and Xico Sá. 4. The 99th day of the Vigil was full of cultural and political activities. During the morning the “good morning” yell to President Lula was fortified by the arrival of the Dom Tomáz MST bus Caravan and afterwords there was a communications, campaigning and photography workshop with the Midia Ninja collective. During the afternoon there was a public conversation called, “The attacks against social rights,” led by Lúcia Côrtes da Costa, Professor from Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG).
