1. In an article published this Saturday, June 23rd, on the Diario do Centro do Mundo website, the ex-Minister of Justice Eugênio Aragão used the word “chicanery” to describe Federal Supreme Court Minister Edson Fachin’s decision to cancel the 2nd Supreme Court Group’s judgment, scheduled for June 26th, on the protective measure which could free ex-President Lula, who has been maintained as a political prisoner in Curitiba for more than 70 days. Aragão, who was also the General Sub-Prosecutor of the Republic, mentioned the short interval between the dispatch from the 4th Regional Federal Court and Faschin’s decision to question the Brazilian Supreme Court. “Has the Federal Supreme Court doubled its chicanery, or will it put order in the process to return respectability to the so badly shaken Brazilian justice system”? 2. During an interview for the Portuguese TV station RTP, Minister Marco Aurélio Mello, from the Federal Supreme Court, affirmed that Lula’s imprisonment is illegal because it violates the Federal Constitution. “Nobody gives a citizen back his lost liberty,” said Mello, mentioning the possibility of absolving Lula, since his condemnation is still provisional and needs to be analyzed by the Supreme Court. “I don’t believe,based on my legal formation, based on my legal experience, I don’t believe in this type of execution,” said Mello. 3. During his participation on the RT program “Conversation with Correa” ex-football player Roberto Carlos said that the current situation in Brazil is “disastrous” and praised the administration of ex-President Lula. “If there was a middle class, a rich and a poor, with Lula we managed to end poverty. But now we have other problems such as the increase in fuel prices, in airfare, in food prices. We have returned to being a 3rd World Country, something that we had ceased to be,” said Roberto Carlos during an interview conducted by the ex-President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and aired this week. 4. During a political and cultural demonstration in Cidade Tiradentes, a district on São Paulo’s East Side on Friday, June 22nd, the samba singer and State Congresswoman Leci Brandão (PC do B/São Paulo) affirmed that the imprisonment of Lula is part of a “kidnapping of rights” of the Brazilian people. “I want to know what crime Lula committed, because to date, nobody has proven anything,” Leci said during the demonstration, which also had participation from the rappers GOG and Rincon Sapiência, among other artists.
