1. The #LulaLivre Vigil had an exciting afternoon on this Thursday, June 21, with a visit by Pepe Mujica, the ex-President of Uruguay. After visiting ex-president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the Federal Police headquarters, he said that their main topic of conversation was their concern about the destiny of Brazil and Latin America. Mujica said that Lula was in good spirits, with lots of energy, that he is reading a lot of books and is paying attention to everything that is happening in Brazil in the neighboring countries. 2. Senator Gleisi Hoffmann, the National President of PT, also met with ex-President Lula today to talk about his pre-campaign for the Presidency of the Republic. According to her, Lula is very optimistic and gave her some orientation about a few tasks. She said that Lula wants urgent definition of proposals to create jobs and generate income in Brazil, to lift Brazil out of its economic and social stagnation provoked by the current government. Gleisi was paid homage with roses by the woman of the Vigil, to celebrate her absolution by the Supreme Court last Tuesday. 3. Dilma Rousseff, the elected President who was deposed in 2016, met with Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson on this Thursday to talk about the political situation in the country and denounce the unjust imprisonment of ex-President Lula, detained for nearly 70 days in a cell in Curitiba, condemned through a unjust and abusive judicial procedure. She also spoke for more than two hours with professors and students at the University of Manchester, denouncing the use of lawfare against Lula. “Lula is in prison even though he is innocent. His detention in unjust and only happened because they tried all other forms of blocking him from becoming President of Brazil again,” said Dilma. 4. Shortly before the “good afternoon” yell to ex-President Lula, the Vigil received a visit from the Argentinian Professor Gustavo Palmeiri, from Universidade de Lanus. Palmeiri recalled that the University awarded Lula the title of Doutor Honoris in 2011 and now is publicly positioning itself against his imprisonment. The last event before the “good night” yell to the ex-President was an ecumenical mass that celebrated how people unite behind just causes.
5. This afternoon, on Olga Benario square in the Vigil, another round of debates was held about the PT’s plan for governance which will be presented to the Brazilian people during the presidential campaign. The encounter was coordinated by Renato Simoes from the PT’s national executive directorate, and PSOL national president Juliano Medeiros also participated.
