1. On Friday, September 28th, Federal Supreme Court Minister Luiz Fux suspended a ruling by Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, and barred former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from giving an interview to the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, in a decision that the paper itself, as well as prominent journalists and Brazilian legal scholars consider to be an act of censorship. 2. Hours before Fux made his unconstitutional ruling, the Operation Car Wash prosecutors made a move to try to subvert the jurisdiction of the higher courts in order to maintain ex-President Lula as their private prisoner, condemned in a trail without proof. Daltan Dallagnol and another 11 Federal Public Prosecutors submitted a motion to judge Sergio Moro so that the interview requests for Lula could be responded to through one single press conference. 3. Demonstrations against the PSL party candidate for the presidency and his sexist, misogynist, homophobic and racist discourse took place in over 100 cities in Brazil and abroad today. In some cities, like Rio and São Paulo, more than 200,000 people took to the streets, yelling, #EleNão (Not Him), and #EleNunca (Never him). 4. The Lula Livre Vigil marked its 176th day of democratic resistance today. In addition to the customary good morning, good afternoon and good night shouts to Lula, there were several demonstrations today in favor of Fernando Haddad as Lula’s candidate for the presidency of the Republic.
