1. After traveling over 4000 kilometers through the states of Pernambuco, Bahia, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Paraná, the Semiarid Caravan Against Hunger arrived in Brasilia, with a plan to consolidate all of the complaints against the setbacks caused by the illegitimate Michel Temer government. In the Federal Capital there will be various events on Monday and Tuesday (August 6th and 7th), including a meeting with the Brazilian National Bishops’ Conference (CNBB) and a visit to the activists who are holding a hunger strike for freedom for ex-President Lula. 2. The six social movement activists who started a hunger strike in demand for freedom for ex-president Lula began their 6th day of protest today. Rafaela Alves, Lulz Gonzaga Silva (Gegê), Vilmar Pacífico, Zonália Santos, Frei Sérgio Gorgen and Jaime Amorim have received solidarity and gratitude for their gesture made in the name of all Brazilians. 3. The #LulaLivre Vigil gained reinforcements today, August 5th, by participants from the 3rd National Plenary of the Federal Workers in Elementary, Professional and Technical Education National Union (Sinasefe) who arrived for the “good morning” shout to President Lula. Professor Ileize Fiorele, from Universidade Estadual de Londrina, emphasized the importance of resistance and defense of Lula’s candidacy. “This vigil represents the defense of rights, democracy and justice for ex-President Lula, the greatest workers’ leader in the nation.” Read more here:https://www.facebook.com/vigilialulalivre/videos/263522554375810/
4. The demonstrations for freedom for ex-President Lula continue strongly in Brazil and around the world. All last week, during the first Summer Brazilian Music Festival in New York, the Brazil Summerfest, activists from Defend Democracy in Brazil/NY met with musicians and the festival public and distributed pamphlets with information about the efforts being made in favor of justice for Lula. The also invited everyone to the #LulaLivre Protest, on August 13th in Union Square Park in Manhattan.
