1. Bad journalism fights against the truth. After a local news story ran saying that children in the camp are going hungry, the Democratic Vigil Lula Livre received a visit from the child welfare services, which was quickly attended and covered the entire area. Not only did they not find any children or teenagers, but they witnessed the huge amount of food brought by the caravans and donated by local residents and activists.
2. Lula’s defense team filed a new motion this Friday, April 13, in the Federal Supreme Court, to dismiss the prison sentence executed by Judge Sergio Moro. “It was clear, at the moment that the 4th Region Federal Court determined the anticipated imprisonment, that the second appeal process wasn’t completed. We are still waiting for the judgment on the first amendments to be published. Due to this, in this motion filed with the Supreme Court we ask for a reconsideration of the decision which denied the injunction and denied that the case was submitted to the Court, so that the order of imprisonment issued against ex-President Lula can be reverted,” said the note from defense lawyer Cristiano Zanin Martins.
3. The ex-Ministers Maria do Rosário and Eleanora Menicucci, respectively, opened and closed the days activities in the camp. Menicucci celebrated the resistance of the women of all against against the coup and reiterated that this struggle can only be won on the streets. “This is why I am here with the man and women from the whole country,” she said.
4. Tomorrow, Saturday, the camp will complete one week since its founding, occupying the area around the Federal Police building where Lula is being held. People from at least 12 states as well as Uruguay, Argentina, Portugal and England have visited the camp.
5. London was the stage today of another protest denouncing the political imprisonment of Lula. To date there have been mobilizations in cities like New York, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Santiago, Washington, Bogotá, Oslo, Montevideo, Lisbon, Stockholm, Panama City, Brussels, among others.
6. In addition to a visit from Olívio Dutra, tomorrow there will be at least two protests in memory of Marielle Franco, who was cowardly assassinated a month ago in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to the sunrise for Marielle, a group of women has organized a drum circle for Marielle which will take place in late afternoon.
7. The poet Alice Ruiz, the Baque Mulher Curitiba group, the Lula Livre carnaval bloco, Estrela Leminiski, Teo Ruiz e Partidianos are some of the acts that will come to the camp tomorrow to help strengthen the fight.
8. A group of state congressmen and congresswomen from São Paulo visited the Lula Livre camp today and will stay tomorrow. Ana do Carmo, Alencar Santana Braga, José Zico Prada, Luiz Turco and Luiz Fernando Teixeira are some of the PT lawmakers who arrived to strengthen the group of people who are already here fighting for Lula’s freedom.
9. Donations continue to pour into the Lula Livre camp! The office of Congressman Zeca Dirceu (PT-Paraná) delivered donations from people from the towns of Cianorte, São Tomé, Terra Boa and others. We are asking for donations of personal hygiene products like soap, shampoo and rubbing alcohol. It is also possible to financially contribute by going to the website https://vigilalulalivre.pt.org.br
