1. Former President Lula sent a letter out in defense of the transposition of the São Fransciso River. The message was read on this Sunday, September 1st, during the closing ceremony of the Lula Livre Caravan through the Northeast with Fernando Haddad, in Monteiro, Paraiba, the town Lula visited in March 2017 for a symbolic inauguration of the transposition project. “Few things in life made me as happy as when I took a dream of many generations out of the planning stages and transformed the transposition of the San Francisco river into reality. One of my greatest memories is of the people’s inauguration that we did in 2017, there in Monteiro, along with former President Dilma, ex-Governor Ricardo Coutinho and many of you who are there again, this time protesting and demanding a return of that happiness that they are stealing from us,” said Lula, referring to the the Bolsonaro government’s order to suspend pumping water in the Monteiro plant. 2. During a show in Curitiba on this Saturday, August 31st, during the schedule of the 18th Agroecology Festival, singer Odair José defended freedom for the ex-President. “Lula Livre, forever! 3. During this weekend the Fourth Lula Livre Joint Effort took place, with activists across the country mobilizing to draw society’s attention to Lula’s right to a fair trial. The activities began on Friday, August 30th, and wound up this Sunday with a big demonstration in Curitiba. Read more here: https://pt.org.br/quarto-
4. Participants in the 18th Agroecology Festival held a protest in solidarity with former President Lula this Sunday. The demonstration, called “Planting Freedom”, took place at the Lula Livre Vigil, with presentations by the Baque Mulher Maracatu Group, Susi Monte Serrat with João Bello, and Luciana Worms with the Partigianos Group. There was also an act of sharing native seeds and in inter-religious ceremony with representatives of different faiths. Read more here:
