1. The most important leader of the French Left, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, came out in defense of Lula on his Twitter profile. “All countries are now using lawfare to get rid of people,” he said. To him, “it is what they did to Lula.” Mélonchon is the leader of the French Insubmissa movement, founded in February 2016. He was the party candidate in the 2017 presidential elections. 2. As traditionally occurs on Fridays, the good night shout to former President Lula on this January 11, took place with an edition of Lights for Lula. During the activity, the activists who have maintained resistance in front of the Federal Police headquarters in Curitiba light up the Vigil with candles and cellphone flashlights in a symbolic demonstration in defense of the former President. 3. Also on this Friday, December 11, in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, there was a book launching for ex-President Lula’s work, “The Truth will Prevail: Why I was Condemned”. João Paulo Rodrigues, from the Landless Workers Movement (MST), participated in the event. The book launching was organized by the Lisbon PT organization. Read more here: https://bit.ly/2VI9GRQ
4. The act of lifting nearly 30 million Brazilians above the poverty line, recognized by the people and hailed around the world, is exactly what motivated the Argentine intellectual Adolfo Pérez Esquivel to nominate Lula for the Nobel Peace Prize. Esquivel was the Laureate of this prize in 1980 for his activism in defense of human rights.
