Bulletin 302 – People’s Committee in Defense of Lula and Democracy

1. Today the lawyers Cristiano Zanin Martins and Valeska Teixeira Z. Martins, of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s defense team, published an article in which they show how laws and legal procedures have been misrepresented and misused in various parts of the world to promote true persecutions against individuals and groups of people. This refers to the practice of lawfare, and the case against Lula is one of the most paradigmatic in the world. They also associate the Lava Jato investigation’s persecution of Lula in the context of US geopolitical interests. 2. On this Thursday (December 20th) the Lula Livre Vigil will receive reinforcements of lawmakers who make up part of the Parlamentary Front in Defense of Democracy. They will spend the day in the Vigil and participate in the customary good morning and good afternoon shouts to ex-President Lula. The PT Congressional leader Paulo Pimenta (Rio Grande do Sul) has confirmed his presence, along with PT congresspeople Afonso Florence (Bahia), Carlos Zarattini (São Paulo), Celso Pansera (Rio de Janeiro), Erika Kokay (Distrito Federal), Leo de Brito (Acre), Leonardo Monteiro (Minas Gerais), Margarida Salomão (Minas Gerais), Miguel Corrêa (Minas Gerais), Pedro Uczai (Santa Catarina), Vicentinho (São Paulo) e Zeca Dirceu (Paraná). 3. Fernanda Maria Caldeira, from the Levante Juventude social movement in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais) participated in the good night shout to former President Lula on this Tuesday, December 18th. She expressed happiness to have come from so far away to meet with other activists who are denouncing to Brazil and the world, on a daily basis, the arbitrary imprisonment of Lula, who was condemned by Sergio Moro without any proof that he committed any illicit act. “Let’s keep resisting with Lula, with unity we will achieve victory,” she said.

4. Gilberto “Amendoin” da Rocha, from the executive commission of the ABC Metallurgical Workers Union, also participated in the good afternoon shout at the Lula Livre Vigil today. “We are proud to be here defending Lula, because to defend President Lula is to defend every Brazilian,” he said.

5. This afternoon, there was a conversation circle at the Vigil about Levante Juventude’s project, Mulheres Cabulosas da História, in Belo Horizonte. The project gathers photos and biographies of 100 women pioneers in the sciences, arts and politics, in book form.
